Making Perfume

Most people like or wear perfume. I am no exception. A couple of months ago we were able to choose which excursion we wanted to go on during one of the days of our Epic trip. There were plenty to choose from, biking in Victoria, a wine tour, a food tour, a ride in a sea plane, making perfume or going whale watching. Now, most of those are typical tourist attraction types of things to do. Not that there is anything wrong with them, but I opted for something unique-making perfume. And since I love history and we began with a little bit of the history, or back story to perfume itself, I knew that I choose wisely. The perfumer was from Dublin, Ireland, and being of Irish descent, that also agreed with me. The 2 plus hours reminded me of a chemistry class. She explained the differences between the top nowt, the heart note and the base note to a scent. There were 3 stations set up, one for each note. You were able to measure out the amounts of oil needed to make up each note. The vials must be shaken gently every few days, stored in a dark, cool place and then added to the large bottle of alcohol in 3 months time. July 21st I will have my own perfume. It was such a relaxing and fun experience. Of course I also wonder if this collection of bottles, all under 100 ml was what flagged them to pull me into secondary screening at the security check point at the airport. I will know more in July, when I smell it for the first time and see if it really is that great. ~Photo is mine

I can see why they were curious ...... didn't they tell you why you were detained?

No, they did not disclose why. It was such a small airport, and I understand that they need/want to be secure. I expected that was the reason.

I hope so too, but the process was very interesting even if the end result isn't.

Fun..maybe you will be able to make it at home now that you know how. I think I would have opted for the whale watching, but all the activities sound pretty good honestly.

Someone who took the sea plane told me that a passenger got in and sat in the seat beside the pilot, and they were allowed to ride there. He told me that he wished that he had the nerve to try that. I wear sea bands on my wrists to go on the Great Lakes, otherwise I would have done the whale watching. And actually, besides memories, my excursion was the only one that gave you something to take back home again. Although I do not know if that got me pulled into secondary security or if it was numbered randomly, and my number came up. It was a bit interesting if nothing else.

What an interesting experience. I enjoyed a free whale watch coming down the coast a few years ago.

Glad you enjoyed this and I hope the perfume smells great. I have about five full bottles of favorite perfums but I don't know what to do with them, After all it would be silly to spritz on perfume sitting at home,

I have body mist that I will wear when I am at home, just because I like it.

Everything covered makes perfect sense why perfume smells as it does, it is layers of scents, and based on the fact that we wear it on 'hot points' of our body (wrists....) it makes sense that most of us have winter as well as summer scents. We also touched a bit on the subject of artificial scents and true scents. I really enjoyed learning something on my excursion and not just looking and seeing which is what the others were, except for the dining and drinking ones.
