Mind games.

How do all you old people keep your mind active and functioning well? It is said that keeping the mind occupied and stretching it is one of the keys to keeping your marbles intact as long as possible in our riper years. I do sudoku every day and Wordle and Worldle. I garden, cook and read novels in French every day too. I have also advanced to a fair degree with other language learning on Duolingo (Greek and Danish). Swimming I have ditched - pools are Petri dishes, fully of children and other bacteria, and it’s rare that I get peace to swim lengths of a pool. I never really indulged in any other sports. One mind stretching exercise that I have enjoyed for many years is letting Kierkegaard tease my mind with his dense arguing, and I side with him on many theological issues. However there is a school of thought that holds that students of Kierkegaard very often end up going mad. What do you do to exercise the little grey cells?

With my genetics, I wonder how much I can do. My mom was getting her second Masters degree when she was diagnosed with dementia at 46. I’m doing what my doctors tell me, and trying to limit all the inflammation in my body I can. I also read a lot and do history crossword puzzles. Just biding by time til the Lord comes back…or I give up the ghost.

I spend a lot of my time reading new-to-me ebooks on my phone (using the Kindle app), I clean house, I prepare most of our meals, I play on myLot talking with friends almost every day, I do crossword puzzles, I also do word-search games, and I play several different types of solitaire. I chat with friends via text messages and visit with my older brother once in a while. I also watch educational videos on my laptop and watch YT videos of favorite gamers playing various games with each other. That keeps me well-rounded.
