In course of discussion regarding a Doctor who served poor people in desperate need for help during natural calamities, my memory went back to a Doctor who was so money minded as well as careless that his wrong diagnosis caused me a lot of trouble.
It was Aug or Sep 2012.
I had sore throat and fever. The temperature I had was above 101 F.
I went to a nearby doctor.
He checked me and immediately ordered some tests. Plus gave me some strong medicines. He took samples himself and sent to his attached lab.
Actually, this practice is followed by quite many doctors so I felt it ok.
In the report, it came that I had Typhoid and the strong medicines continued.
However, I had not felt Typhoid like symptoms and my medicines caused me uneasiness and I always felt as if I was consuming something very hot.
I stopped taking hot Milk tea.
Started consuming more cold drinks.
Then I consulted one of my uncles who is a doctor but stayed far.
He told me that the doctor had diagnosed incorrectly.
His report interpretation was wrong.
Then I went to another Doctor in another hospital.
He diagnosed me correctly. I just had viral fever and related effects.
With the right medicines I improved and my uneasiness also eased.
I learnt some hard lessons.
One was not to agree if a Doctor asks to be tested immediately from his associated lab, unless condition is too bad.
Also check a doctor's reputation from others.
I wonder if people who do not have option for second opinion get a doctor whose diagnosis is way off the mark?
It would be quite disastrous.
Any similar experiences that any of you folks had?

Yes, I had a doctor who sounds like your first doctor in the discussion. She insisted that I was just fat and I only needed to lose weight and I'd feel fine. When I finally convinced Pretty the doctor was wrong, we changed to the doctor we have now. She diagnosed diverticulitis and gave me antibiotics which cleared the pain and fever in a week or two but I kept taking the medication for another week or two.
I agreed I was overweight but that shouldn't cause fever and pain that persists.
I am losing weight now and am feeling better than I have in quite a while but other problems have been diagnosed and I'm still waiting to get in to see the specialist.

It is good that you figured out about the Doctor fast enough.
Good to know that your fever and pain got in control after the change of doctor.

At times, shortage of doctors means that the "Not Good" ones still have to be adjusted somewhere.

Yes that is true.
Yet in some cases, people have very little choice in choosing a good doctor.
