I have travel on the brain because my next trip starts this Saturday.
I like to travel, especially to new international places, because the experience is so different from what I see every day in my suburban part of the United States.
I enjoy the sights, the sounds, and yes even the smells of visiting a new place.
It's exciting to see something you've never seen before especially if those things are unique to a different culture or region.
What's your favorite part about traveling?

Like you mentioned just the novelty of it all, and seeing something so different than what you are used to. I also love trying different cuisines other than what I have grown up with. Now that I have this new air miles card maybe I will try to get to Italy by the time I am 70.

For me when it comes to traveling the Thing i enjoy most is seeing new places, this alone gives me joy, buying things while i travel, and if am traveling alone, the cool breeze while the car moves and, am just there quite, Listening to some good music, or watching some movies.

Not having to do dishes.
I like “being away,” and getting to see and discover new things.

@LooeyVille — yes! Especially when traveling the way I do. No itinerary, just “which direction should I drive this time?” That’s sort of decided for me next week because we have a tournament in northern Kentucky, but other than that….

@FourWalls there's a certain amount of a feeling of "freedom" associated with traveling

Hey, if that makes you happy while you vacation, then that's a good answer!

I like going to new-to-me places and talking with people I don't already know. The people can be just as fascinating to me as the places we go.
I don't need someplace foreign, just something different from what I've always known.
I LOVE eating foods that I didn't grow up with and ate last night.

@looeyville It's partly the act of travelling that I like, just going somewhere, preferably by train. A long sea voyage on a cargo boat appeals. Once I arrive it's generally not long till I'm ready to hit the road again. Having said that, I do like to take the time getting the feel of a place, staying well away from the touristy areas and the sights we are commanded to see by tour books. Good food is one of the big attractions for me too. If I were on my own I'd be slumming it because I can do without my comforts if I'm on my own. The wife thinks differently.

For me, it's just a simple break from the monotony and change of pace and venue. I like the adventure when we go someplace new, but I also like the sameness of the places we enjoy. Take camping. We have some places we frequent because they offer a little bit of everything. They break the monotony, they change the pace and venue, but they also offer a sense of "home" as well, if you know what I mean on the latter part.
