I have Arthritis and Sciatica and when it rains it makes my body hurt. About 4 or 5 days ago it was sunny and warm out but my back hurt so bad and I mentioned it when I was asked to do something and I said I couldn't because my back hurt. I went into my room and looked at my weather app on my phone and it forecasted that it was going to start raining in a few hours and continue all evening and night. I returned and said no wonder my back is hurting more then usual,it's going to rain. I was laughed at and told "Well it's not raining yet, so you can't be hurting your lieing!" I told her that people with arthritis can feel the rain coming. She then said that was impossible and I was psyco. I started laughing! I went back in my room and looked upon Google. Can people with arthritis feel pain if it is going to rain before it starts? It said Yes, people with arthritis often feel joint pain, stiffness, or increased swelling just before it rains or when cold, damp weather approaches. This is not a myth; it is a real physiological reaction to decreasing barometric pressure. The cause: Before rain, atmospheric pressure drops. This lowers the pressure on the outside of the body, allowing tissues, tendons and muscles around joints expand, which stimulates pain- sensitive nerves. Why Beforehand? The body acts as a sensor, detecting the drop in pressure before the rain actually arrives. Affected Areas: The pnenomenon is common for those with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or old joint injuries. Other Factors: Increased humidity and lower temperatures can also cause joint fluids to thicken, causing stiffness. I forwarded this and never heard another word!

Wow, their ignorance is shocking. It is very well known people with arthritis can tell when rain is coming. I’ve been able to do it myself because of my arthritis. The fact that they made fun of you shows how little they know.

Yes, it's true. I'm sorry you have somebody there who doesn't know that but I'm glad you could enlighten them. It's supposed to start storming again later today and my hands ache, making it harder for me to type. *shrug*

It is true. My arm sometimes hurts and sometimes doesn't before. For me it depends how big of a change we will have.
