Can You Guess What I Found on My Trip??? (Part 1)

Oh, lookie, she found a waterfall. Who’s surprised??
I actually found three in two stops along the way. I’m starting with the one that cost money.
(A gripe: I came home early because of the price of visiting Indiana. Gasoline was over $5 a gallon in some places [while it was just over $4 here in Louisville while we had the prices of everything jacked up for the Kentucky Derby!], and I noticed that they have increased the price of admission to their state parks for non-Indiana residents from $9 to $15.
Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, and Tennessee state parks — us and five of the seven states that surround us — have no admission fee for their state parks. The only other state that borders us that does is Virginia, which is a $3 admission.)
Oh, well, as you can see, it was worth the admission. McCormick’s Creek State Park houses the McCormick’s Creek Canyon (a misnomer, don’t think “Grand Canyon” here), where the waterfall is located.
Yeah, it’s gorgeous. The park is gorgeous, too. I’ll bet that place is astonishing in the fall, with all those vibrant colors. If the price of gas goes down I’ll go back and find out.
Meanwhile, enjoy a lovely photo of a lovely waterfall on a lovely but cool spring day.

You’re right, so much incredible beauty in autumn. I went to Cumberland Falls in autumn one year, and it was amazing.

@LadyDuck — absolutely. The Christmas song is wrong: Autumn is “the most wonderful time of the year.”

Moral of that story: go to other states’ parks!

@FourWalls Yes, I guess that's the moral.

Beautiful falls. Cousin #2 just went to her first FL park. They found waterfalls and a spring to swiim in.

Glad you enjoyed the photo. Oh, those spring parks are amazing. Bet they’re overrun as hot as it is down there right now.

@LindaOHio — another great reason to go in February. Not swimming weather, but you do have the place to yourself!

@FourWalls They limit the number of people per day. You have to make a reservation.

It is! I liked going down to water level to see it there, too.

Thank you!
I’m still looking for an ugly one. Haven’t found it yet.

That's a beautiful waterfall. Sounds to me like you found some price-gouging!

I’d say it was price gouging, but they had nothing “significant” happening and they were far enough away from Louisville to not be affected by the Derby traffic (also not in the main interstate paths to Louisville).

@AliCanary — they could make it a little less blatant. Florida state parks — some of the most beautiful I’ve been in — let me get a free lifetime pass for being a disabled veteran. (I’m not special, they do that for all disabled veterans, Florida residents or not.). Indiana doesn’t give discounts for out-of-state veterans or elderly.
I looked up the costs on the Indiana State Parks website. They’ve upped the annual non-resident pass to $120. Oh, and Indiana Dunes State Park? $7 for resident, $20 for non-resident. Don’t flatter yourself, Indiana, you aren’t that pretty.

@FourWalls it's weird to think of a government entity pulling that crap, as they were a for-profit business. They're paid for by our tax dollars -- entrance fees are just to make up for the shortfalls, I would think.
