Does anyone care about the World Cup?

Soccer (football to the rest of the world) is not that popular in America, although it grows, especially in youth leagues each year. But people love to cheer for their own country, so even here the World Cup is well watched. It doesn’t matter that the American men’s soccer team is far behind the American woman’s soccer in terms of success, people still watch and root. So, I ask, does anyone care about watching the World Cup? Other than hoping for everyone’s safety, that is. *Picture if of mini resin soccer turtles in various yoga poses.

I do enjoy watching some of the matches, the techniques of the various teams always amazes me. But I was a die-hard Soccer Mom back in the day. And before he finished playing youth soccer, he began referring it, which when you live in the country as we did, required your parents to drive you, and we would watch the younger kids that he would ref play. There were times when parents would yell at the ref, and Ron would quietly pack up our lawn chairs into the trunk and take me for a walk through the neighbourhood to look at landscaping and talk about anything but soccer. He always ref'd the Day of Champs top teams games. That was very competitive and a nice way to end the summer before classes began back.

Some parents should be banned from watching their children’s games, shouldn’t they. Kids have so much fun when everyone is in it with a good attitude.

I do want everyone to be safe, but I have no interest whatsoever in the World Cup or anything related to soccer.

I wouldn't mind attending a live World Cup Game but I am sure the tickets are expensive.

I do not watch sports at all. I like soccer better than some of the other sports. Those turtles are just so stinking cute.

Before I read the text of your post, I thought "Which sport is that?" I guess that answers your question.

@AmbiePam Heh. I played soccer for a couple of years in high school. (I was not particularly good at it, as I have two left feet.) But I've never really followed the sport as an adult.

Oh yes! I love watching the FIFA World Cup. Do I care about it as much as sports, such as ice hockey, basketball, baseball, or football (American) ? Not necessarily, but I always do make time to watch some of the matches! With that being said, I'm very happy that Canada is a team in it, this time around. That, and the fact that it's being hosted in North America, etc. Also, somewhat unrelated (but maybe not completely) I did play soccer, from ages 4 or 5, up until 16. I can't say I was any good at it, really.. But it's a fun sport to participate in

@AmbiePam Yeah for sure! I had some great memories, playing soccer. Lots of friends, and some family playing on some of my teams, that was also cool

When my sons were younger they would watch some sports, but they were so busy going to school and working, they couldn't get into much watching during their teen years. One son played football for several years. They would watch the Super Bowl, and enjoyed watching NBA at times, but that's pretty much it. I love turtles. Those are just adorable!

I have watched the WC most of my life with a kind of rabidity that is only understood by other true fans. But I feel this particular WC won't be all that good with the US involved

I’m not surprised you feel that way, and I really really wish the United States was not involved. I also wish we didn’t have the 2028 Olympics.

@AmbiePam some years ago a bunch of us were talking about creating a World Cup City which is somewhere safe in a temperate climate which is just stadiums and hotels and airport and harbour to be used for the World Cup.

Over here, the world cup is pretty much a huge deal, and it's something almost everyone cares about but i have never really been into football, so i don't really put in much interest.

Football isn't really is a thing in our country, I mean world cup. If I am asked to watch it live, I'll go. But if I just watch it over the tv it really is not entertaining for me. I always end up somewhat feel bored though I'm cheering for a two Ronaldo and Messi.
