While Everyone is Leaving, We Chose to Stay

My family chose to stay in our old village where my sister and I grew up, along with our cousins who are already working abroad or living in a different city now. That is because of the community, the people, and friends that our parents have here - relatives who still stay here. We also love that everything is nearby, church, hospital, banks, grocery stores, cafe, malls, city hall, wet market, everything that we need is within our reach. But some of my father’s sisters have gone to different cities now with their kids. It is sad, but that’s their decision. Do you have immediate family who already lives in different faraway cities? Do you miss them?

While I have a few cousins that live nearby, and my dad and his wife live here, most of my family lives about three hours away. My mom’s family is mostly gone now, but my dad’s family is huge, and so many of them gradually moved to one city when my dad was small. They all followed where the jobs were better, and then the rest of the family just decided to stay. But my dad’s a pastor, so he lives where he is called. And right now, my dad has been called to be at his particular church for the last 29 years.

I never had a place where I grew up I lived around the world until I was 15 years old. I did leave Colorado where I raised my kids. I retired and my husband and I moved to Oregon.

I think your family is your home. But I love how you live around the world. I don't travel, sometimes I am scared to travel also. I don't know maybe I am also lazy.
