For those who don't know--Outlander is a TV show based on a very popular series of novels by Diana Gabaldon. There have been 9 books published with the last one still in progress. . . which makes it interesting for the TV show to end before the author concludes the story. I think the same thing happened with Game of Thrones.
Anyway the first few seasons of the show followed the books pretty faithfully but then they started smushing book storylines together around season 5 which made it clear that the series would end before Gabaldon ever finished the last book. (she takes FOREVER to write a book)
I wasn't much impressed by this last season but I thought that the finale would make up for it. Not so much. I won't give any spoilers but it just wasn't what I was hoping for for the last episode of such an amazing story. Sure the screenwriters had to finish a tale that hasn't been written yet but the conclusion was, well, too easy, too similar to a movie version of a book, and just lame. Then the very very ending happened without explanation.
I'm not a book purist and have not been upset about the changes in timelines and storylines in the show vs the novels. These last few episodes have just been failures in terms of doing justice to the show. The last one (series finale) was not only bad and strange in terms of the 2 main characters but it largely neglected mention of other ones--Brianna, Roger, Marsali, Lizzie, Jenny, and Rachel. There was minimal notice of Ian and Fanny but not enough for me.
Suffice to say that I am not satisfied with the final episode of Outlander. I know that the ending doesn't have to follow the books but the ending was just bad. I can't say much more without spoiling the ending but it seemed to be a bad mashup of another ending of a movie and a 2 second inclusion of something that had been mentioned before..
I am not at all impressed with this series finale of Outlander. I'm shocked that the author Diana Gibaldon said that she was happy with the show's ending. I can only hope for something better when she finally publishes book 10 which is supposed to be the end.
I didn't like the last episode of Outlander.

I’ve never seen it, but I’ve heard of it. You would have been happy to have been with me at the VA Thursday…they were triple booked so I had to sit in the waiting room through two entire episodes of Friends, and the start of a third one, before I was called back.
