Husband for Rent: What?!?

It may not sound right, but you read the title right. I came across a short video clip about how you can hire a husband in Japan. He will portray himself as a husband who had rented him. A typical day involves having a companion by having a date at night. It is like an escort service, which is a good business to gain money in a man's pocket. Is it a hard-working job? It is indeed an easy job. What do you think, guys? Image Credit: media.newyorker.com

I heard that was the premise of a movie that came out this year called Rental Family, too.

I agree. They also offer this kind of service. I find it weird, but it happens in Japan.

Wow, they actually pay you to be a husband? That’s pretty bizarre! So does that mean you have to live with the girl too, or is it more of a part-time gig where you’re only together in public and go your separate ways at night? Are women really so desperate to temporarily rent a husband?

I have not read about women for rent there. I was thinking some women tend to be desperate when availing themselves of this kind of service. If women indulge in this kind of job, it is an old issue that relates to escort services here and there.

@Shavkat But this is different because they act as a husband, not just an ordinary escort. Being a temporary husband might sound strange, but it’s about women not wanting to be seen as single in their social circles. In the end, it can feel awkward since they’d be pretending to be married and have a romantic connection. Escort services don’t have these traits; they’re purely transactional.

@rsa101 Indeed. It is a big difference. I also heard that we can rent a family in Japan.

It is indeed that it connotes the same idea.

I've heard of this. Not something I'd be doing.

For me, I was so surprised at first. It was like women who tend to work similarly to it.

At least you can return them if you don't like them

You'd think it would be an easy job but perhaps there are some drawbacks.

I also think the same way. Some people have indifferent connotations with regard to this kind of job, especially women.

I think women are not for rent.

I wouldn’t be comfortable with The Mister doing that and I know he would never do it. Ok for single guys but not married. Putting up shelves, gardening ….thats ok for married guys….
