Schmoozing With Famous Politicians

One thing people know about Rabbit Hash, Kentucky is that it’s probably the smartest town in the world. In 1998, Rabbit Hash elected the first mayor in the world who was canine. That’s right, Rabbit Hash is the home of the dog mayors.
Wilbur, the current mayor of Rabbit Hash, was not in the office to receive visitors Friday when I was there. However, pictured is the dog who came in second in the mayoral voting, so I guess that makes him the deputy mayor.
Oh, did I know how to bribe this politician. A belly rub, a few pats on the head, and a butt scratch, and he was ready to pass any legislation that I wanted to have enacted!
Now, Rabbit Hash is a real town. It was founded in the early 19th century as an Ohio River outpost. The problem was, there’s a sandbar right where people settled the town, so riverboats and freight barges couldn’t dock there. As a result, the boats headed to the other side of the river, a town known as Rising Sun, Indiana.
It’s one of those cute little Luckenbach, Texas-type places (except nobody ever wrote a song about going to Rabbit Hash, Kentucky with Waylon and Willie and the boys
): it’s about 300 acres big, and the population of dogs outnumber the people (probably explaining why the town went to the dogs
). There’s a really cool general store that’s the heart of the “town.” In 2016 a fire destroyed most of the building, but it was so brilliantly painstakingly restored that you can’t tell that it’s not the original building. It even smells like an old country general store.
It is NOT a “destination” attraction; however, since I was relatively close to it (about 15 miles from my hotel), I figured it was a great place to go and schmooze with famous politicians…and probably the only ones you can trust!

Hahahaha, that's funny. Maybe that deputy mayor is more functional and never absent.

I bet that mayor, and his deputy, do a fantastic job. Probably better than a lot of politicians I could name! Did you go in to the general store? I would have had to check it out, because I am always curious about those little stores.
