Grumpy this morning

Many mornings recently I have woken up way too early. Like at 4 or 5 am when I only need to get up around 7 am. Then I find it really hard to get going when I actually do get up, and by late afternoon I’m already tired. But then I start to feel more awake again later and end up going to bed at our usual time, somewhere between 11 pm and midnight. So after a few days of this it’s getting really annoying and I’m fed up with feeling tired all the time. I decided the best approach would be just to embrace the early mornings, and instead of just lying there listening to the dawn chorus and hoping I could go back to sleep – which almost never happens – I should get up, get dressed and go and get some jobs done outside. I wrote myself a list of things I could have a go at in the morning and went to bed shortly after 11 pm. Well my plan didn’t work. I woke up about 4 am; it was still dark and I could hear the rain! Even the birds weren’t awake yet. So not the best time to trim the hedge or weed the parking area. And I didn’t want to start doing noisy things in the house and wake other people up. So once again I just lay in bed listening to the birds waking up and getting annoyed. Maybe tomorrow I can put my outdoor plan into action? All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2026.

I always wake up at 5 in the morning and I also get up as soon as I am no more sleepy. The morning hours are precious.

That's true and I just end up tired AND annoyed with myself for wasting that time! When do you go to bed?

@Fleura - I usually go to bed at 10 pm, but I read for one hour before turning off my lamp.

I rarely sleep; so I can understand your frustration. I hope the weather improves.

Just now
Good luck with your new plan. I hope it works one day soon. I would read, myLot, tidy up files or crochet until it was okay to make a bit of noise.
