I’m furious

The print costs have gone up with the place I publish my books and I am supposed to update the prices for all of them. If I do not do that by June 1st then whatever new price they decided to set for me is going to be in effect, which is not what I want. I didn’t even know I had to do that until I accidentally saw the message when I logged into my account. They should’ve emailed me about it. I thought this whole process of updating book prices would be quick and easy but not the case. I was able to update the prices for most of my books, but for the first four books the system is not letting me do it. Turns out that because my books have been published a long time ago in order to update the prices I have to re-upload the interior book file and the book cover file for each of these books. Only then will I be able to change the price. Also, the book projects are in unpublished draft status, which means I’ll have to republish them. This makes absolutely no sense to me. I shouldn’t have to do all this just to change the price of the books. And my book projects should not have been changed to unpublished draft just to make sure that all my distribution requirements are met. The books are already in distribution. I have yet to tackle this, but I have a feeling that I’m going to have issues when I do this. Things just never seem to go easy.

I'm sorry to hear this. My book couldn't take a price increase. It's already too expensive.

I found Word documents of my books on my memory stick. So now it would be easy to just fix whatever I need to fix. But for whatever reason the formatting is off. And when I try to fix certain things they don’t work. Like in one of my files I tried to vertically center the text on the page and when I select that option, the text doesn’t actually vertically center. I don’t understand why the text is not vertically centered in the first place. It was originally. Maybe these are not the original files.

And then I wanted to redo the page numbering and header because the way that I have it is not right. Like you’re not supposed to have a page number displayed on the copyright page and there should be no header either. And there are some other pages that should not have a header or page number displayed either but when I try to fix it, it doesn’t work. If I cannot fix these two things, then I cannot reupload the files and republish the books and the prices will become whatever it is they decided.

Isn't that the truth?! Prices are going up on so many things. I think some places don't know the right or best way to handle it.

That’s all so crazy. And yes, they absolutely should have emailed you about it.

In order for me to make sure that the interior file dimensions are as they should be and that everything else is all right, and since I am re-uploading the files and in turn republishing the books, I thought I may as well fix typos that I know exist. The book files that I have downloaded from the website are PDFs. In order for me to make any changes in the files I need to convert them into Word docs. I found out that if you open a PDF in Word that it’ll convert it to a Word doc. I tried to do that for one of my books and what happened was the formatting in the Word doc is all screwed up. I have to sit there and look through the entire document and fix all the formatting. This would mean that I would have to do that for six different files. That is not something that I want to do. Now I am even more upset than I was. And I have no idea what to do.

How many books have you sold Lena?

I have no idea what my totals are. But I can tell you that the total books sold for all the books that I have published should really be the total for one book. I hope that makes sense.
