Have you heard of ‘pink slime’? Western Australia has now had its first examples of AI-generated online news outlets which pose as local news sites and/or regional newspapers. The colloquial term for such sites is ‘pink slime’. Ther term comes from a by-product of cheap, highly processed meat products. Such AI-generated sites are apparently widespread in the USA.
The sites masquerade as local journalism/newspapers to attract clicks and advertising revenue. They may also seek to influence politics.
One of the sites, The Bunbury Guardian, began publishing articles which had previously appeared in/on ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) sites. The parent company, Scholastica, took the mastheads offline once the ABC started making enquiries.
This form of low-quality, AI-generated news, widespread in the United States, is named after a by-product of cheap, highly processed meat products. So, once again, have you heard of pink slime?
The photo is of me putting the final little plug in the door of the shed we helped build.

This is the first I have heard of pink slime. I hate when you can't trust the news that is printed online.
Good photo!

Just now
Perhaps our Indian butcheries can think of it. I hear this country where the cow is honoured as "mother" is the third highest beef exporter.
