You may remember my posting about an elderly neighbour Charles, who lives across the road from my Mom. His son Andrew has always lived at home and for the last how ever many years was his carer. You may also remember that Andrew’s sister Jackie was going to move in with her Autistic son James. However before she could move in Jackie sadly died. A few weeks ago Jackie’s husband Keith, who was living in a care home sadly died too. Well, I am very sad to let you know that Charles died last week. He was well into his 90’s and suffering greatly with dementia. He has not left the house in a couple of years and was in bed for the last several months. Mom and Charles ( and families ) had been neighbours since 1975. A very sad day. My thoughts are with Andrew who is 65 himself, so no spring chicken and in the past 7 months has lost his sister, brother in law and Father and had his Autistic nephew living with him. ( James does not leave the bedroom at all ). It is a lot to have to deal with. Sometimes life is hard …….

That must be totally overwhelming. I hope he has support in caring for James.

There are neighbours ….like us ….who are there for them , but sadly any ‘official’ bodies are like finding needles in haystacks…..

I really feel for Andrew. It's probably not the life he envisaged for himself. And really sad that he has lost three family members in such a short time.

It’s certainly not ….it would be hard for him to start a new life in his mid 60’s anyway …..he has never gone out much, always lived at home and not gone out to work for over ten years due to being his Dads carer …..now to have his nephew to care for too …. He doesn’t know many people and doesn’t really have ’ friends’ as such.

Oh gosh, that is really hard and so sad. My heart goes out to them. Is your mom able to help him at all? We usually make food for people who have lost loved ones.

My Mom is 88 so she is there for him to chat to, give guidance etc …. Andrew does have a couple of folk who cook for them. …..hopefully carry on for him now …. However he has done cookery courses and that’s the one thing …. Cooking …. that he says he finds very therapeutic.

@Traceyjayne oh, that's nice. I hope he finds some solace and happiness in that, and it's good that your mom can visit with him.
