A Productive Couple of Weeks

June 3rd is World Bicycle Day!
I wasn’t waiting around for that to start riding my bike, however. In addition to my solo rides, it was a productive couple of weeks in Project Hero Denver.
We had a rainy ride with our community partner, Adaptive Adventures, where we got to ride bikes with Michael Jordan!
Granted, it wasn’t Michael Jordan, rather, a guy named Michael Jordan, but he does have an autographed basketball from Michael Jordan, and a really cool story about how he got it, but we did get to ride with Michael Jordan! In the rain!
Part of the Denver-metro bike path system runs alongside the part of US 36 that connects Denver and Boulder (also known as the Denver Boulder Turnpike.) From our starting point to the scenic overlook turnaround, it was almost all uphill. I had never ridden that trail before, so I had no idea what to expect. What I found, at least for my ability, was a climb that wasn’t exactly hard, yet it was a good climb. I enjoyed it and hope we do it again soon.
And finally, yesterday I rode some laps in Denver’s Washington Park, with our Vietnam War veteran. During that ride, I hit the 10,000-mile point on my Scott Addict Gravel 30 (I call it "Agent Gravel," as opposed to my mountain bike, "Agent Orange.". It’s not actually my bike, it belongs to Project Hero, but this is only my 4th year on it, so I’ve been putting in the miles.)
Later this month, there is a Veterans Movement Expo at the Denver VA. I, along with a couple others, will be manning a Project Hero booth and talking to our fellow veterans. Hopefully, a few will join us and have some fun!
Now go ride your bike tomorrow.
Oh, and I made a video from those rides:

That’s great. I played golf with Brian Johnson. No, not the replacement for Bon Scott…and every time he wins I congratulate him then say, “But I like Bon Scott better.”
Wish my back would let me ride a bike again. I dearly miss that exercise.

Way back when both me and my buddy Tom worked at the Lowry AFB Commisary, there was a Tech Sergeant named Gary Moore that would pay with a check. First time he came through my line, I was like, "Nice!" He was like "That other guy over there had the same reaction." "Yeah, Gary's his favorite guitarist, too." Dude had no idea until I told him.

Reaching 10,000 miles is a serious milestone, especially with all the different routes and conditions you’ve been riding in.
