A.I. - Absolute Ignorance

A friend of mine was looking for a specific person. He was barking her name into his A.I. controlled phone. This went on for about three minutes. I went inside, activated my laptop... which has no A.I. and posted a question. I got the woman's address and phone number. I wrote it down and went over to him, handed him the paper saying; there is a reason why it is artificial intelligence. I have suffered with various companies who communicate with the public via A.I. I keep demanding an 'agent' and eventually I am connected to a human. I suspect that in a short enough time various businesses will advertise that they have human operators and their revenue will explode

I did have struggle communicating my concern due to they used AI to response but gladly I did found a way how by searching reviews. And one reviews tells me to keep requesting "real agent please" to the bot. Thankfully that works though it really takes time.

I do not much rely on AIs. Some information is not accurate.

@jaylar You said it right. Deception comes in when it comes to using them religiously.

most isn't accurate. It leaves out what is significant to humans.

I think some businesses will charge to speak to a human but do most customer service by A I. I'd rather interact with humans.

@celticeagle it appears cheaper to a company right now, but if another company can state it has HUMAN agents... I think they'll get the business... AI is extremely limited although it has not become that evident to most

It's not Ai's fault, it's often user error. Did it occour to you, you were able to find the person easier because you knew what to type, and where to search? Where as your friend didn't? Did you know, your laptop uses Ai, even if you don't think it does? It used Ai, to go through the database to pull up what you searched. Ai isn't always the problem, but we like to blame it for everything, because we don't know how to use it.

the fact the AI is programmed in such a way it will not 'read into' something like a human would. I suspect there will be a pile of disasters before humans are reinstated in some areas... while AI will rule. BTW it is not A.I. on the computer... the computer has a programme and you give it orders.

@jaylar That's basically what AI is. It's a program in a phone, and or computer, that takes the instructions you give it, and spits out results. When you do a search using a smart phone for example, the program will look for things your phone would have (such as contacts) before searching the greater web. If you had a contact book on your computer, it would've looked for the person using that, first. You have to remember AI is only as smart as the name you give it. Most AI tools still struggle with what's known as natural language. Understanding instructions based on how a person speaks, instead of computerized keywords typed or spoken. No mater what language you speak, there's a natural acient that's unique to you. When you speak, you don't notice it, but others listening to you would. AI is just a program, nothing more. The "intelegence" part of it, is only telling us that if the same pattern or sequence is used often enough it'll learn it, and use that pattern as the default. While I don't see human jobs dying out, I do see a world (which we're already living in) where robots (not AI) handle the same tasks you could do yourself online using a computer. Now, will more mistakes change this behavior, no. And, here's why. Money. It costs a company to build a robot programed to listen to key words and phrases to complete tasks on behalf of a human, then pay someone else to do it. If you hire human workers, you have to pay them. Companies are cuutting labor costs by using other methods instead. So, that's why we won't go back to employing more human workers, because most companies would either have to incresse priceses in order to keep fair profit margines in the black, or keep priceses the same and cut the labor. Humans get sick and injured and need time off as well, so those things cost companies, too. At the end of the day, it's all about money.

@kaylachan I don't want to think you are right. I guess I believe people are not as weak and stupid as they are. Maybe I come from another planet

My current employer switched to using AI call center agents a few months ago. It's been a universally awful experience for customers and employees, so naturally there are no plans to go back to the way it was. Absolutely wild how almost nobody wants AI and every single company out there is trying to shoehorn it into their business model. Meanwhile, the general public is screaming for a bit of human connection from companies and would probably throw money at them if any of them bothered to listen...

some company will grab the public with a human agent. And when their revenue soars... others will follow

I dont rely on AI, I was having a hard time on remembering a specific law that I need on my lecture, so i tried using AI for the first time (and its my last) and it gave me wrong information. so because of that I never tried it again.

exactly. I do my own searches, check the source. I guess my ego is large and I am smarter than some idiot program created by a double digit I.Q.

@Soobinah and there is another negative.... who controls the AI controls the information you are allowed. Hence we are in 1984... AI... or Big Brother, will tell you what to think.

I don't use it myself and I will do the push button for this and that. But when it comes time to actually talk I demand a human

That’s a funny but interesting example of the difference between technology and real-world usefulness. AI and automated systems can be helpful, but they definitely still have limits, especially when dealing with specific requests or customer service. I think a lot of people still value having a real human to talk to when things get frustrating.

Once we get used to a particular technology, they change it. And some applications require latest software updates which phones/laptops of a few years ago cannot take. AI is still evolving and it will do so all the time till something else takes over. We are always on a catching up mode. Talk of "user-friendly" customer service

I don't move to the 'next' level. I use two 'unknown' browsers and have no 'smart phone'. The only time I am connected is when I sit in front of the laptop and turn it on, connect the internet. When I'm done I disconnect and turn off the computer. I was a hacker... and I and my crew linked with gov. so as to alert them to various things. We used Linux and gave it a Windows appearance so the staff wouldn't know. I don't use my real name, photo, and my online friends are those whose weddings I attended. I don't use AI at all. If I search, using an 'unknown' search engine, I type in my subject.

I am fascinated by AI technology in general, especially when it describes a photo for a blind person such as myself, but yeah, some companies overuse it, and when it fails, you just wish you had someone to talk to.

and the question is... is the description accurate? I have seen images and 'news releases' about a politican who is in custody... but she's standing in front of me ... and discussing a new law. Don't trust AI.
