Devil Crab: Beware?!?

This morning before I dribbled my fingers on the keyboard, I watched a local documentary about crabs. I thought all types of crab could be consumed. It is also known as the 'toxic reef crab.' The word 'toxic' depicts for itself that a toxin can enter our system and eventually result in death. A typical example is the fish vendor blogger in my country who ate it and died after a few days. Being aware will not kill us, so we should know what kind of crab is being served on the table for us to take. Are you fond of eating crabs? Have you seen this kind of crab? @Shavkat Yes, I had actually forgotten my username (you can't log in with an email), but wow what a coincidence, I happened to save one of those "someone followed you" emails from 2020 and it had my username in it, and I had memories of passwords from 2016 and such, so I was back on in no time!

@mininifty I am glad that you came back. I felt sad that some are not active anymore. See you around...

It is best not to indulge into something that we cannot be sure what it is.

I know about these poisonous crabs, but I’m not really sure how to identify them just by looking. I hope there are tips for spotting them beyond pictures, since those can be misleading and they often look like regular ones.

@Shavkat I see though the picture you showed doesn’t really load clearly for me but l am glad that some government agencies spread this information to the public. I will research on this topic for my own awareness.

According to what I had watched, they do not have smooth shell. It looks like a curvature of human's brains. This is what they did for awareness of the locals. Image Credit: encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com

It is also what I had encountered for the first time. I have not seen it in our local market, and that is a good thing.

Devil crabs are poisonous and there are also fish that are poisonous, better to be informed before eating something.

@Shavkat - Often there are parts you have to remove in order to make some fish edible. You must know which parts and be sure they do not break, or the poison will spread to the edible meat.

I don't eat seafood so don't have to worry about it.

I am glad to hear that. I only eat a few types of seafood and dislike eating fish with soup.

That is quite scary, isn’t it. I love crab, but I rarely eat it as it is very expensive, and I just can’t’t afford it.

I am glad that I have not tried to eat this kind of crab. It will be a tragic end of my life if it happens.
