Another Senate reorganization has just happened

After the senate coup on May 11, another reorganization took place today, replacing the Majority after some senators switched sides. The Senate has sunk so low that the Senate president is acting childishly, boycotting sessions with his allies after one of their members was arrested for involvement in a flood scam, causing their numbers to dwindle and one member to join the minority. For three days, the majority bloc has been absent, making it difficult to reach a quorum. The minority gained an extra member, bringing their count to 12 and making them the majority. However, they could only vote for the Senate pro tempore, as electing a new Senate president requires at least 13 members. The minority officially has 10 senators in their ranks.

I'm from the Philippines as well, but I think I'm the only person that keep missing out what's happening to our government. Even at the office when they talked about what's happening I can't really relate as if I didn't exist in our country.

You should at least stay informed about what's happening around you since, as part of the country, you’re also contributing taxes to these people. That’s why it’s worth knowing what they’re doing and who is responsible for what.

@Jehanne It is understandable that you prioritize your mental health by filtering out the noise, but there is a fine line between protecting your peace and enabling a lack of accountability. When citizens disengage entirely from the political process, it creates a vacuum that self-serving politicians are more than happy to fill.

@rsa101 I am still informed, but I filter what I needed to know but that doesn't mean I'm not open to know or hear every opinion. It's just that I listened more than I talk. Some information online is to much for me to handle, I needed to protect my peace of mind. hehe In which my colleagues often talks inside the office about what they read over in the Facebook, that's what I keep missing out since I'm not active on Facebook.

That is true but when you see them everyday on the news it is important to be in the know since we've elected them and see them as part of your duty to see what they are doing as elected officer.

I hate hearing this as I have met so many wonderful Mylotters from the Philippines, and they deserve better.

It’s honestly embarrassing to watch this. Our Senators are acting like they’re in a soap opera instead of actually doing the jobs we elected them for. Watching them bicker over power while the country’s real problems get ignored is a total slap in the face to every tax-paying citizen.

Politics can really become complicated and frustrating to follow, especially when alliances keep changing. It sounds like there is a lot of tension and uncertainty in the Senate right now. Hopefully, things settle down soon and leaders focus more on their responsibilities and serving the public.

In my place, the political scene resembles a circus, with alliances and loyalties shifting like sand. I do not expect the situation to settle soon, as an impeachment trial for the Vice President is approaching. With leadership now controlled by a hostile majority against the VP, there is a looming possibility of conviction if they can secure 16 guilty votes. However, the majority currently holds only 12 votes, while the minority has 10, meaning they must persuade 4 more members to reach a conviction. It has become a clear numbers game, and this ongoing political drama, which dominates the news, has led many to dub it “SenateFlix.”

Ignoring the news is a luxury we can't afford when politicians treat governance like a crime scene. From harboring fugitives to obstructing law enforcement, these theatrics prove that our institutions are decaying. This isn't just partisan bickering; it's an accountability crisis where political survival outweighs public safety. When leaders subvert the laws they are sworn to uphold, staying engaged becomes a matter of national survival, not just a civic duty.

@rsa101 I can see that corruption is a big issue.

I do hope the reorganization will be in favour of the people, you can never trust those politicians.
