Power grid improvments should be paid for by the people who use the most electricity

Data centers and AI companies are driving the cost of providing electricity higher and the costs are spread out to the whole community. This practice is unfair and if there is a company or individual that is going to use the most electricity then they should pay the costs of expanding the grid. What do you think?

Here in the United States, many data centers and AI companies are making their own power plants. In fact, Ford Motor Company just created a new company that will sell the equivalent of car batteries to some of them to aid in their power supply needs. President Trump also is allowing these companies to build small nuclear plants. The "program" will work two ways. These data centers and AI companies will use their own generated power, relieving the burden on local power companies AND if they have any excess power, they will sell it back to the grid.

It would be even better if the new power plants would use green energy and not pollute the environment

@porwest Here in Israel I power my hot water almost year round with a solar power system that is installed on the roof of the building and I don't need to turn on the gas system to heat water for baths and showers. It does work if you know how to use it correctly.

This issue is becoming especially controversial in areas attracting major AI expansion, including parts of the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Some regulators are already considering rules that would require large energy users to bear more of the infrastructure costs rather than spreading them to residential customers.

I rather not have AI and that would take care of that problem.

That's not fair..the data centers and AI companies should pay more for electricity..they should pay for the expanding grid not the citizens
