Ahhh….Chuy’s!!! Loaded with appointments on Wednesday, too afraid of the traffic to drive across town yesterday, I finished my GI appointment today and headed straight for my soft chicken taco!! And we’ll get back to more “normal” music..ha ha. At least you’re more prone to remember these guys because they had a massive amount of success. Here’s today’s Beatle reference.
Born in the 50s - The Police
I always love to quote guitarist Andy Summers’ line about how The Police got their name: “We saw it on the side of a car.”
I’ll let you in on a little secret, too: I know Sting was supposedly the “heartthrob” of the band, but Andy was my guy.
Seriously, when I saw The Police on the Ghosts in the Machine tour in 1981, I thought Andy (who was pushing 40 at the time) had far more energy than Sting. (Great show, a friend of mine flew up from Florida to Norfolk, and we had a blast…sat behind the stage so we had a good look at Stewart Copeland’s drums.)
There’s not much to say about this song, because the title says it all. An ode to the boomers, with a little of the angst of “My Generation” thrown in (“you don’t understand us, so don’t reprimand us, we’re taking the future, we don’t need no teacher” [side note: before the music success, Sting was a teacher…obviously NOT a grammar teacher!
).
Great early music from The Police.

From Outlandos d’Amour, 1978
BEATLE REFERENCE LYRICS:
They screamed when the Beatles sang

That’s cool. I don’t exactly expect Sting to be attracted to low-IQ types.

Well he was a teacher.
And he certainly didn't like being hit on by his school girl pupils

Then they wondered where kids got it from.?You would get a fist full of steel if you corrected them.

Sting is from my neck of the woods, and still quite the local hero.
I didn’t fancy any of them, so I won’t fight you over Sting or Andy!

I liked The Police ……
When I went for my interview to get a place in college the guy asked me “ Do you have a Police record ? …..and I don’t mean “Walking on the moon “
Oh he thought he was hilarious !
I laughed politely…..and got my place on the course.
And no I didn’t have a Police record ….either the band or the criminal kind
( there are those who would say that they are one and the same !)

Don't like the song, they had better ones.
But that line about 'we don't need no teacher' sounds like a reference to The Wall by Pink Floyd .... just had to throw that one in.

Just listened to the song..I think it's great but why do people refer to this song as the worst Police song..I saw one commenter saying that on YouTube..it's a great song.. love it
