This is a slang term for thieves who steal packages left on residential porches and front steps. About 250,000 packages are stolen daily across the country. With the average item valued at nearly $150 it is estimated that porch pirates cost Americans between $12.8 and $15 billion annually.
About 10% of these thieves are ever apprehended. About 1 in 4 victims even report the crime and police departments often prioritize more severe, violent crimes. They are also very hard to investigate.
If you live in a high crime area it is a good idea to use a anti-theft box or a P.O. box.
Have you ever had a package stolen? I don't think I have.

@AmbiePam ......It's a great way for thieves because it is so hard to catch them.

I haven't had one stolen, but many of my family and friends have. I am lucky that in my block, we all sort of watch out for each other and it's fairly quiet. I have a locked mailbox so no one can get in that but me. But I know that most of the thieves are never caught.

Just now
We have a doorbell camera, and have had one since we bought the house nine years ago. However, we haven't had anything stollen. We did get a package once marked as delivered, but was never delivered. Next morning someone found they didn't actually deliver it, and brought it to us.
