Eat Less to Lose Weight? WRONG!

If eating less was the way to lose weight, we'd all be slim right? Wrong! Eating less makes the body go into what is called "starvation mode". Instead, a person needs to eat more calories to lose that weight. And that means food that makes us feel full and won't cause spikes in blood sugar. This keeps your metabolism healthy. Things like eggs, leafy greens, nuts and whole grains help with this.

I think if someone eats more of healthy, high fiber, low-calorie foods (like eggs, leafy greens, nuts and whole grains), and not just junk food or ultra processed food, they often accidentally lose weight.

I doubt it because the body goes into the starvation mode that I mentioned.

@celticeagle The food that doesn't cause spikes in blood sugar is generally low in calories.

True!! my daughter is going to a nutritionist and I've been trying to piggyback on what she's learning. I've increased my protein so that as I lose a few pounds I'm not losing muscle as well.

Well, there is a science to this, though. The adverage diet should consist of a minium of 2,000 colories/day (idealy with health-ish) foods. But, each person is different and requires more or less. An athlite or very active person for example, or an expentant mother, might eat more, while a couch patatoah needs a little less. If you're obese for example, the general assumption is you're taking in more colories than your burning in a day, and therefore need to eat less. It's not a one size fits all, and when a doctor looks at the numbers on the scale, they rarely-if-ever consider you're not eating enough, when in reality, you can . Believe me, you can also go the other way, like my husband, and be as skinny as a pole and not eat enough, too.

Exactly. We need to eat to speed up our metabolism which in turn burns off fat. Eating less to lose weight is fine if you eat enough of the right stuff Bit people who try and starve.gge.weight off will put it back on again more quickly than they ever lose it
