Howdy from North Carolina! I hope I can get both songs posted because I’m in a small cafe with great BBQ chicken and iffy WiFi. But let’s see what we can do as we continue to celebrate the legendary Paul McCartney’s birthday. Here’s today’s reference to the Beatles in a song…Linda? NO!
I Try to Think About Elvis - Patty Loveless
Two things to tell you about Patty Loveless. One, she’s a distant cousin of Loretta Lynn. (Yeah, yeah, I know, everybody in Kentucky is related.
) Two, she graduated from the same high school that my dear mother of blessed memory went to!!! (Disclaimer: Loveless was born about ten years after my mom started going to Fairdale High School.
)
She was also put in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2023, marking yet another set of cousins inducted (the three front men in Alabama are/were [RIP Jeff Cook] cousins). Now, if we could only get the Louvin Brothers’ cousin John D. Loudermilk inducted as a songwriter….
You don’t want to hear any of that. Let’s talk about Elvis, and everything else in this fun song that tries to take the narrator’s mind off of her love interest. The video, of course, takes the silly route, making it even more fun.

The Beatles or the Rolling Stones

I saw her when her career was just starting. She was opening for George Jones.

@Dena91 — the other opening act that night was another young up-and-coming singer: Randy Travis.

@FourWalls I saw her when she was opening for George Jones too. There was a music festival. Before they became huge stars we saw her, Kenny Chesney, Little Texas and Mark Chestnut. George was the final act of the day.

Thanks for the warning; but Patty Loveless was enough of a hint. I know a Gary Burr.

@LindaOHio — you could watch the video with the sound turned down because it’s funny.

She’s not that pretty anymore, but then this was 32 years ago. I’m not so pretty anymore myself.
