In one week I'll be on summer vacation

You might have heard the old joke: "What are the 3 best reasons to teach? June, July, and August". I have a little sign that says that up on top of one of my bookcases. I've had it for so long that I don't remember if someone gave it to me or if I bought it myself. Anyway the last day of school for us is next Friday. I know that we go much later than some of the southern states but we also don't start up again until September. Next week is all half-days for the students so they will be done at 11:15am. We are expected to stay until 2 as usual but I usually dip out around 1 since I don't have anything to do. People keep asking me what my plans are for the summer. I tell them the same thing I always say--work on my tan! If they ever open the pool I will be there every day that it isn't raining or storming. Back in the day when I first started teaching I had multiple summer jobs but I have long since stopped doing that. I do summer savings ($$ withheld from each check so I get checks when we are on break) and I make like 3x what I did back then so I can get by without picking up another job. It is always a great feeling to turn in my keys and walk out of the building on that last day. I need the break in order to replenish my rest and patience so I can handle another year.
