It’s time for another song from the storied musical career of Paul McCartney. I’m enjoying my vacation (too much, I slept eight hours without moving last night
) and I’m also enjoying this trip through Macca’s career. Here’s one from what seems to be “everyone’s” favorite post-Beatles solo album.
Mamunia (Paul & Wings)
If you’re wondering, or even if you aren’t, Mamunia was the name of the hotel Paul, Linda, and Denny Laine were staying at in Marrakesh. The word means “safe haven.” But not too much of that has to do with the rest of the song.
It’s a song about the joy of rain. “Don’t complain, it rains for you,” Paul sings. We’ve been in a drought in Kentucky (and much of the south) this spring, so I’m not upset when I have to head back to the car because my weather app tells me there’s a storm approaching.
Not to mention that petrichor is one of my favorite aromas in the world. It’s also my favorite weather word.
Yes, there’s a word for that…seems like they have a big fancy word for everything. You know that wonderful smell when it first starts raining? That’s petrichor.
This song starts side two of that marvelous Band on the Run album (not that I ever had the album or anything….
), and it calms things after the churning close-out of side one (which will be on the list later…
). Enjoy this and the rain.

In Southern California its better to go with when you can smell rain in the air. Petrichor, or when rain actually hits in this place smells like wet concrete and oil stains. They do not call us the concrete jungle for nothing.
Did you know there is people who are baffled by people who can smell rain. How do you smell rain? Use your damn nose and your cave person gene.

It rains a lot here, but I never complain about it. Last week it only rained twice. Once for four days, and once for three.

We've got a bit of a drought going here, ourselves.
