We’ve had some wet and miserable days here and one afternoon I switched on the TV and the film The Ideal Palace was playing. We visited the Ideal Palace when we were touring France in our motor-home in 2017. I wrote about it at the time but as it’s nearly ten years ago, some of you won’t know of the palace and others might have forgotten about it.
Ferdinand Cheval was a French postman and walked around 40kms a day delivering mail. He began building his palace in 1879 and worked on it for 33 years, then spent another eight years building a tomb. I didn’t find it terribly attractive, but you had to admire his resilience.
He has incorporated a great number of quirky items in his palace including elephants, camels, ostriches and a nod to the statues of Easter Island. The lower right photo is of a model to give a better idea of the overall place.

I find it unbelieveable that one man could build something like that in only 33 years. It's not very attractive but it's easy to see it took a lot of work.
