Australian officials recently made their largest-ever seizure of illegal exotic insects when they confiscated more than 100,000 cockroaches from a breeder in New South Wales. The collection included Madagascar hissing cockroaches, a species known for its large size and distinctive hissing sound. Authorities estimated the insects were worth around $142,000. While Australia already has hundreds of native cockroach species, officials regulate the import and ownership of certain foreign species to protect local ecosystems.
OK, who here would be willing to pay even 1/10 of these cockroaches worth? I absolutely do not get it!

I understand there’s a whole exotic pet and breeding market out there, but $142,000 worth of cockroaches is still a number that makes my brain stop and reboot for a second.

Do these cockroaches have some medicinal value? In homeopathy, certain species are thought to have properties curing asthma.

i admire australians for protecting their nature. also, there was this reality series about airports and it was a sydney airport and a lot of passengers tried to brought in dried animals. i mean, these were real but, still.
