My smile was reciprocated by strangers. Isn't it a reason to be happy?

Yesterday, as I was going to get my motorcycle after attending Holy Mass I smiled at two strangers and I was well rewarded. No, they were not members of our church. They were not even Christians. I had never seen them before yesterday. The parking place of motorcycles is about a hundred metres away from the church, among Hindu houses. First, it was a young girl of about eighteen or nineteen. She was riding a bicycle . I just smiled my little smile at her. She smiled back widely in an innocent way. The image of her smile is imprinted in my memory even now. Now, I don't consider myself a young, dashing, handsome and attractive person. So I don't think the girl was compelled by any of my qualities. But she did smile with joy on her face. Secondly, it was an old lady. She had just made a gesture of respect to a temple beside the path.l smiled in my little natural way.I didn't expect her to respond. For some reason she smiled joyfully. There was a third person. I met her as I stopped on the road to enquire about kitchen appliances. She was walking beside the road. I asked her, " How are you?" She too smiled while she said, "Bhalo achchhi". Later I found she was an assistant in the kitchen appliance shop. What may have gone through the minds or hearts of these persons! Can you guess?

I feel that if you smile at people, their is every possibility that they will smile back. Don't expect that from everyone though. They may just see you as a nice person. And if you dress well, people often respond positively. The aura you carry may also be a reason. If you carry a good aura, people will respond to you in a positive way

With the older lady, it may have been a mix of politeness and comfort. She was already in a respectful mindset near the temple, so your smile probably just felt like a kind acknowledgment of what she was doing. People often respond warmly when they feel “seen” in a respectful way.

A smile lights a day. Your smile must have been very special to all of them.

I think getting a smile from a stranger would have very special to them and would have made their day, much as it made yours. I always try to smile at people.
