It finally happened!

I think I wrote on here before about how the Dollar General out here had remodeled and supposedly turned into a DG market carrying meats, fruits and vegetables. Well, it took them forever to get the vegetables and fruits in stock, but they are there now...finally...and were really well stocked too. So cool! The things cost more than they would at Food Lion, but better than making an 8 mile trip there and back especially if you only need a few things. During the week that road has been pretty crowded anyway, with construction vehicles since they are working on the data center. Anyway, I bought a banana. Next time I will get more. Anything open or get stocked near to you?

There's a new Aldi, probably 1 year old now, about 3 miles from me that I haven't tried yet and they're building a Publix about 2 miles from me that's supposed to open this Fall.

OH that is good. I wish they would put an Aldi here. There is a big super market that vacated from the bigger town about 25 minutes away. They never put anything in there. I think an Aldi would do fantastic in there.

Publix in Kentucky? For some reason I always associate that chain with Florida and the Southern region. Not sure how many states they are actually in, though. You'd think I'd know the answer since I follow business so closely, even many private businesses. Maybe one day I will do some research just out of curiosity.

@porwest They just entered our market 2-3 years ago. It seems like they're building way too many / oversaturating this area and the rest of the state.

I have been in several of those, and they are good stores for smaller towns farther away from major cities and towns to get things in a pinch. But man, are they expensive.

Our dollar stores do not have fresh foods in them, there is no refrigerated items at all. But we do have Giant Tiger. I love shopping at the GT. They have great prices, they price match, and they have fresh fruits, meats and vegetables as well as baked goods.

That sounds like a nice place. That is one thing..the DG market does not have any fresh breads or bakery items.

@snowy22315 The GT even has clothing, cleaning supplies as well as household items. They are quite a step above our Dollarama stores, but their prices are still good, not alot higher since our dollar stores haven't sold things for a dollar in a decade at least.

I understand very well that you prefer to pay a little more than to drive 8 miles. I do the same, I walk to the local store even if it's a bit more expensive.

Yes, especially now with gas prices being higher and the construction traffic on the road during the week.

@LadyDuck It would be great to have a store within walking distance. If I walked it would take half the day for me to get there and back.

@snowy22315 The traffic on the roads is really bad, I am so glad I can walk to the store.

Yes, this particular location does a lot of business anyway. I think it will only increase now. They did a nice job on the remodel and they have a lot more in stock. It is kind of like a Walmart Neighborhood Market.

It usually isn't too bad going to the larger store but I can save on gas and wear and tear on the car if I just need a few items by going to this store out here.
