The alphabetical list ends today, which means I have ten days to get a list together for July.
Y’all are going to be mad at me today, because it’s a band you know but a song you’ve never heard. I’m so sneaky that way.
Another song that almost made the top ten.
Silver Heels - Fleetwood Mac
You may not believe this, but this band had a career before Stevie Nicks. This was Fleetwood Mac’s last album before the Nicks era began. Bob Welch, who wrote and sang lead on this song, left after this album. The band wanted Lindsey Buckingham as the singer/guitarist to replace Welch, but he told them he was a package deal and if they took him they had to take his girlfriend as well.
That caused their success and their destruction. If you listen to “Prove Your Love” from this album you’ll see that they didn’t need anything to augment Christine McVie’s lovely voice. Alas….
Anyway, this is a rockin’ little number from Welch. A good note to go out on. Welch, later in the 70s, had a brief solo success with a remake of “Sentimental Lady,” which he’d originally recorded with Fleetwood Mac on Bare Trees.
Welch took his life after a failed back operation left him in constant pain and unable to move without great difficulty.
He left behind a great discography with Fleetwood Mac, and this album is definitely worth a listen…if you can get past that picture of Mick Fleetwood on the cover.

I so agree with you on that song. I could make that drum intro a ringtone, but I’d never answer the phone I’d just listen to it.

@rebelann — I do that, too. My brother’s ringtone is Johnny & the Hurricanes’ “Reveille Rock,” which he used to wake me up with when we were kids.

You are right, I don't think I've ever heard this one, either. I did love Fleetwood Mac. My son said the other day he still remembers me listening to them when he was little.

Most people don't know anything by them before the Buckingham/Nicks era.

Yeah, that'll never make the "sexiest man alive" cover of People.

I think so. I really like the stuff Bob Welch did with them.

The Bob Welch era is actually my favorite iteration of the band. Lindsey and Stevie are actually 3rd, and I liked Christine's songs best out of that era anyway.

If you listen to Sam Llanas of the BoDeans you'll probably think he's impersonating Stevie Nicks.

Oh, I love it. Bare Trees is a terrific album from Fleetwood Mac, long before the Buckingham/Nicks era.
