James Paul McCartney, OBE, CH. One of the most universally recognized musicians in history. He just turned 84, and I’ve been celebrating all month. Now it’s top ten time, and let’s go into the top ten. #10: The End of the End (Paul) Many people joke around about writing their own epitaphs. One of my favorites is the 109-year-old hypochondriac who wanted on his headstone, “I TOLD YOU that I was sick!” This song is nearly 20 years old, but here you see that Sir Paul not only wrote his epitaph but planned his funeral ceremony as well! Yes, it’s a sad song, but it’s not really. Paul is looking optimistically at everything: “it’s the start of a journey to a much better place, and this wasn’t bad, so a much better place would have to be special.” He’s echoing the line from Jimmy Buffett’s “He Went to Paris” (“some of it’s magic, some of it’s tragic, but I had a good life all the way”) with that sentiment. Many people these days don’t call them “funerals” but rather “celebration of life” ceremonies. That’s exactly what Paul’s advocating in this song. Oh, and please don’t miss the Abbey Road reference with the title: the last song in the side two medley is “The End.” The End of the End Written by Paul McCartney From Memory Almost Full (Paul), 2007 No need to be sad:

I love Merv Griffin’s: “I will not be back after this message.”

@teamfreak16 -- yep, no kidding! Jack Lemmon's is also funny: it says "Jack Lemmon in," and it's blank after that And Rodney Dangerfield's says, "There goes the neighborhood."

I agree 100%!! There's an old hymn that says "Brighten the Corner Where You Are," and that's what we should be doing!
