Adding Plants to Your Home for Health Sake

I used to have plants in every room. Even air fern in the bathroom (remember them?). Not so much anymore. I found an interesting article about the many benefits of having plants in your home. Here's some reasons why: * Researchers have found that rooms with plants in them have less dust and mold. * Leaves and other parts of a plant act as a natural filter to catch air born allergens and particles. * Spider plants can raise the humidity in a room by 10%. House plants can raise the moisture to the air and help in lowering the risk of colds, flu and skin itch caused by dry air. * English ivy, asparagus fern, and dragon tree are good air scrubbers. Carpets, printer toners and inks, paint, cleaners and other indoor objects can give off pollutants that are called volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These build up in the air and irritate eyes and skin. * Avoid plants with pollen or spores.

I mostly have the plants in during the winter. Even most of my house plants get moved out in the summer

I used to enjoy putting them outdoors in the summer months. As if I knew they'd enjoy it too and flourish for awhile.

I still have indoor plants in the kitchen. That's the room that gets the best light for plants here. I only have one plant that blooms in the house and it's Oxalis and I am not allergic to the pollen from its flowers. I have three pots of Elephant's Ear, one pot of Pothos and one pot with a Ficus in it. We used to have more house plants at our last house but gave them away when we moved into this much smaller house.

@celticeagle You aren't walking through the house all the time where the plants are at. I can still water inside plants where I can't water outside plants anymore. Our storm door fights with me when I try to come back inside. It pushes me back out the door.

I love having real plants in my house but these days I prefer them in the vase and not in soil.

We have a few indoors. I think we need more 'cause we've been getting a lot of dust from the building construction across our apartment complex.

Ferns are real good at filtering out the dust. Boston are easiest to take care of and coffee grounds keep them going nicely.
