Last night was supposed to be finishing up the May obituary list and catching up, but it ended up being about eight hours of severe weather coverage. Thankfully, no fatalities (that’s the #1 thing to hear after tornadoes) and minimal injuries. I’ll try again tonight, but today I’ll let these guys serenade you with another song about the Beatles. #9: Gonna Send ‘Em Home - Homer & Jethro I love honesty, and this song had it. What did the “older generation” of performers hate about the Beatles? Their “long hair” (yes, that was “long hair” in the early 60s)? The girls screaming? The insanity of Beatlemania? If you ask my opinion, the reality is contained within this comical tune from America’s song butchers: They’re millionaires, they tell us They made it overnight And if you think we’re jealous You’re absolutely right Yeah, what took Sinatra twenty years to accomplish was blown away in 20 minutes by Beatlemania. Sure, the Beatles paid their dues, too, but we didn’t see that in the US. They just showed up; or, as this song says, “Ol’ Jack Paar said ‘Here they are’ and the whole wide world went ape.” This wasn’t Homer and Jethro’s only dig at the Beatles. They did parodies of “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “She Loves You,” complete with a 45 sleeve photo of them in Beatle wigs (that showed up again as the album cover of Fractured Folk Songs); and mentioned them again in “The Square Song” (“there’s Beatles, Byrds, and Turtles”). The lyrical digs are complimented by their use of the old folk song “Boll Weevil” for the music. And check out Homer’s impersonation of the “oooh!” in “She Loves You.” For you kids, Homer and Jethro were Weird Al before Weird Al was born. And, in this hillbilly’s opinion, the only act who’s ever been able to hold a candle to Homer and Jethro is Weird Al. Gonna Send ‘Em Home Based on traditional song “Boll Weevil” Written by Henry Haynes and Kenneth Burns Recorded by Homer & Jethro From Cornfucius Say, 1964 BEATLE REFERENCE LYRICS: the entire song The Beatles got the money, they really hit it big:

I kinda like this one. I know dad liked Flatt & Scruggs but I have to wonder if he liked these 2. Dad was a die hard country western fan of singers like Hank Williams but I never really paid enough attention to what he actually listened to, like any teen I simply went outside and turned on my transistor unless I was stuck in the car with my folks

I met a few who were die hard rockers who'd never think of listening to them but they also didn't like the Beverly Hillbillies @FourWalls

They were iconic and funny, everyone loved them. I remember my Grandma watching them on The Johnny Cash Show, way back in the day.

@FourWalls I remember her sitting in her chair after a long day of working, and just cackling when they were on! She loved them.

They were comedians, so they’re just making it appear that they didn’t like them.
