Never Could do a House

In my younger years I was a bit envious of those who bought and maintained homes. I would have loved to have had one. I did have nice ones when I was married but always left them to my husband's when I left. Never wanted the burden or responsibility I guess. The repair bills and my meger earnings never seemed to mesh some how. Now, looking back I wish I had. It would be paid off and I'd have something to leave the kids when I leave this body. Ever wish you'd done things differently?

We have been Mortgage free for about 10 years & although it was hard going financially we are now reaping the benifits. No regrets!

That's good. I spent most of my adult life as a single mom and alone so it was tougher to make a mortgage each month by myself.

@garymarsh6 My husband and I also don't have a mortgage. A good sized property tax, though.

I acknowledge that I am a messy person. No way can I stand the idea of living in a rental apartment. I would be the plague of the building.

@celticeagle Thanks for the laugh. I go stir crazy if confined too long. Yes I am a zoo critter.

We have always rented. I can't afford the down payment for a house; we have too much going out, mostly medical bills. Ironically, if we were making what we make now 10 years ago, we would have been able to save up for a down payment, but my husband didn't have the health problems back then that he does now. I also wouldn't want all of my money going towards a house payment. My friend, who is my age, worked hard and was able to buy her house before market prices went up. I wasn't in that position back then, and now house prices are way too high. I wish I could have owned a home, but we will have to settle for renting. I also don't think I'd want to manage the maintenance when things break or need to be repaired or replaced.

Do you have any kind of housing where you live? They help people with down payments here. It's a five year program.

That would certainly be nice to have Housing leave me alone.
