Time for another photo of my bike leaning on something. I take a lot of these (lot’s of cyclists do this. There are even social media pages where we post them!) I took this probably four or five years ago. Every year, on Veterans Day only, someone attaches this American Flag to this bench alongside the Cherry Creek Trail in Denver, Colorado. I’ve never seen the flag out on any other day, even riding past on Memorial Day or Armed Forces Day, which might seem a little odd in a way, but Veterans Day it is. If I’m not riding with Project Hero on Veterans Day, I ride this route. I normally give the flag a salute as I ride past, on that day I stopped and got a photo. Just a reminder: Veterans Day - Thank a living veteran. Memorial Day - Honor the war dead. Armed Forces Day - Thank and honor Active Duty military. Link is to a video I made of our Project Hero Veterans Day ride in Longmont, Colorado, 2025. I shot the footage from my handlebars:

Our veterans and war heroes need to be celebrated. Thanks for highlighting the difference between a veteran day and a memorial day

People here get that wrong all the time. People thank me for my service on Memorial Day. I feel like a jackass if I correct them so I just say "my pleasure" and let it go.

Nice to see the tandem bike. We met some elderlyy people with a tandem in Cherbourg, France. She said she couldn't ride a solo bike but was apparently okay on a tandem. Thanks for the video. They looked like nice tracks to be riding on.

The girl on the back of the tandem is blind. The guy riding in the front is a volunteer that rides with her.

@teamfreak16 That's really great that the girl is able to get out in the open air on a bike.

@JudyEv - She loves riding, but she does a lot of other stuff too. She's very active!

I like seeing those leans. I have a friend in Chicago who posts a lot of his lean photos.

It seems quite a common practice. There are several groups on Facebook. I'm in one. I got kicked out of one a few years ago for using the word "bong." Not kidding.

And I like that you’ve made it part of your own Veterans Day ride. The salute as you pass, and stopping for the photo, makes it more than just another “bike leaning on something” shot. It turns it into part of your ritual.

Yeah, it's kind of a special ride. Riding that day is how I celebrate.
