There has just been a debate on tv about owning versus renting your home ….. There were pros and cons talked about for both….. So , I was just wondering , do you own or rent , and why have you made that particular choice ? Do you feel more safe and secure because you own ? Do you take more care because you own ? Do you feel happier to call a landlord If things need repairing or replacing ? Is it easier to move if you rent ? Anyway, I’m just interested in your thoughts ……

I've been a homeowner for a gazillion years so it's a little hard for me to remember my earlier years when we rented. I guess homeowning was way better for me raising a family that I didn't have to worry about a landlord deciding what I could and couldn't do (like how many kids I had or pets, etc.)

Its better to own a home than to rent a house. The place I stay is inherited..lucky me. Nobody likes paying rent. It's better if the house is yours. You can do whatever you like with it

I remember my parents talking about how it’s better for your taxes if you own a home over renting. My dad owns his home, which will be nice when he retires, but then there are always property taxes to pay. I will forever rent due to my financial situation. While I would like to own for several reasons like being able to stay on top of certain repairs, at least I don’t have to pay for those repairs. And, when you rent you aren’t tied down by having to wait for someone to take a fancy to your home. You just leave. I think if you are financially stable it’s mostly better to buy. If you’re not, then renting is the best option.

We owned our home in Switzerland. When my husband showed signs of dementia, I decided it was time to sell. We moved to an apartment that we rented. It's easier, I have enough to need to take care of my husband, the landlord takes care of everything.

We own our home. I’ve never rented a home. When I was a teenager I rented an apartment but have owned my own home since age 21
