Mom asked for my help yesterday to clean up and scrub the rust that built in the stainless part of our kitchen. Isnt it that if its pure stainless it wont have rust on it? Thats what I know. It can have scratches but rust wont show right? This part of the kitchen is the part where we place and keep dry and ckean pans and pots. But when I removed the container there were rust on it. What I did to remove it was I mixed detergent soap and oxallic powder ,used steel brush to scrub it and luckily the rust was gone. Was it the correct method ? Are there any ways to remove rust on stainless surfaces?

On Copilot Search I found this: To remove surface rust from stainless steel, you can use the following methods: "Baking Soda Paste: Mix baking soda with water to create a paste. Apply it to the rusted area, let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub with a soft cloth or sponge furniturix.com Vinegar: Soak a cloth in white vinegar and place it on the rusted area for a few minutes. Wipe it off with a clean cloth furniturix.com Commercial Rust Removers: Use a commercial rust remover specifically designed for stainless steel. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application Bob Vila Non-Abrasive Scrubbing: Use a non-abrasive scrubbing pad or cloth to gently scrub the rusted area, avoiding any harsh materials that could scratch the surface furniturix.com Preventive Care: Regularly clean and dry your stainless steel items to prevent rust from forming in the future homecleanexpert.com These methods can effectively eliminate rust without damaging the stainless steel surface."

I know they don’t last forever and will eventually rust. From what I’ve learned, the chromium coating that protects them can wear down over time, and when water, bleach, or other harsh cleaners reach the iron, it will naturally rust or oxidize. It’s also said that salt and other harsh chemicals can strip away the chromium coating from the steel.

I have no idea about this. I would think that you wouldn't get rust on stainless steel.

Stainless surfaces can get rusty if they have been scratched Rust will show if the scratches have penetrated the top surface I think your method was fine
