Hey Americans--do you have any plans for the 4th of July?

It is always a big holiday but this year is the 250th anniversary of the publication of the Declaration of Independence. (sorry UK ) Typically people spend the day at the beach, lake, or park and BBQ or have picnics. Fireworks displays are traditional when it is evening and dark. When I was married and living at the house my ex and I would host a big BBQ for family and friends. I always loved entertaining everyone and it is a shame that I don't have the space to do that here. We would grill, smoke stuff (food not marijuana), play yard games, have a fire, and of course drink cold beverages. I'd always make a big jug of sangria which was loved by all. My ex would fill up a ginormous cooler with beer and we had the basement bar as well. I would pick whatever Saturday was closest to the 4th to host the party. Then my family would spend the actual 4th (if it was a different day) at the beach fishing, grilling, and chilling. You haven't lived until you've eaten a ton of grilled littleneck clams while looking at a pod of dolphins going by in the ocean. In any case I don't have any plans for Saturday. No one has said anything about going to the beach which is fine because I still have complicated feelings about that place even though I am 100% a beach baby. No one has invited me to any parties. . . and I'm totally fine with that. It is a lot easier to just walk 2 minutes over to the pool. Do you have any plans for Saturday?

My dad’s side of the family has a family reunion every Fourth of July at a “resort”. It’s the most beat up resort ever. It used to be incredibly nice, but in the last 15 years it has gone downhill to a huge extent. It’s still full up though since it is right next to Lake Tenkiller. We’d all stay about three days, BBQ, play mini golf, swim in the pool, and watch fireworks. I quit going because they mostly stay outside, and being outdoors in 100 plus degrees is not my idea of fun.

Go to Mark’s for lunch, come home, stay out of the heat, watch a baseball game, and take a nap. Woo hoo, what a party animal!

Nah, too hot but I am toying with going to the local Mexican place for a Margarita and watching the fireworks from their patio. However, it might be packed with people. There should be a place somewhere near the windows if it is though. I might see if they have reservations, except as far as I know it is first come, first serve. Son is coming down next weekend weather permitting so we will do something probably barbecue.
