I’m in Manchester.

Today was quite a day. I got up early, did some stuff, coffee at the Gobbins then drove to the airport at noon. The scanner took exception to my bag so a young man rifled through it and took a swab of my Bible but it was clean. This happened last time too. I know a lot of people take exception to the Bible, but fortunately my copy wasn’t deemed to be explosive. It is in French though. The scanner also took exception to my undercarriage when I went through it. The outline of a man on the screen had an exclamation mark … there, yes right there. Eventually I too was declared clean and allowed to proceed after much prodding and patting. The flight, all 35 minutes of it, was difficult. The pilot had a rather erratic flying style and we were going all over the place which was disconcerting. But I’m in Manchester, staying in a lovely house. We had a meal in a very odd establishment beside the canal where we have eaten before. It was almost empty save for us and a table of six ladies, English ladies of a certain age, all knitting. They looked ordinary but with an eccentric edge to them, and I’d have loved to have known each of their stories. It’s boiling hot and it’s set to get hotter.

Flights are always disconcerting to say the least. I'm glad the Bible passed muster.

If I was by myself in the restaurant, I would have asked if the ladies minded if I asked their stories and enjoyed their company for a while.

You’re not yet in a country I expected you to get flagged for the Bible.

@fleura Yes, this is the place. I ate a sad looking halloumi burger.

@xFiacre Oh, that's disappointing. I was expecting something more interesting!

@Fleura As was I. My wife had a satisfying Nasi Goreng and daughter had disappointing Dan Dan noodles.

I have heard stories on the internet news that European cities are dealing with extreme hot weather.

Enjoy the stay in Manchester. I hope the return flight is at least minus the prodding and patting. Wonder what they thought you were packing, is that the correct term?
