Should schools teach more life skills than the traditional subjects?

Let's be honest, most of the subject we learn in school, we have never actually made use of those knowledge when it comes to dealing day to day life. Do you think schools should focus more on teaching life skills like budgeting, communication, mental health while they also teach the current academic subjects? I have come across tons of students who ace their papers in school, but find themselves completely lost when faced with real life problems. What's your take on this?

I would think but they focus on what gets them money back. They so silly, you could get your money back every time if you taught right. You to worried about someone robbing you so you raise your price to rob them first and next thing you know we in a world where no one can trust anything.

Make me understand you, so you mean schools feel teaching life skills won't give them returns?

Exactly, there needs to be some sort of balance, not focusing on one while leaving the other.

At my college, the first semester we had to take a class called Student Success Skills. They tried to teach you what high school left out about dealing with basic skills to you by. However, I really think some classes like financial literacy should be taught in high school. Kids need to know how to budget, and the danger of overusing credit cards. I also think Home Economics should be brought back. Too many people can’t even cook! But overwhelmingly, we need more teaching about finances. More than anything.

This is pretty impressive, we never had any course like that, yes we had home economics but we didn't do it much. It would be nice if they bring it back. My niece doesn't even know how to cook properly.

I feel things would have been a lot better if they did, like there will be more problem solvers out there.

@eldav1s Much more time should be spent teaching budgeting skills etc and also how to be polite and respectful.

Maybe they can choose to have a specific day or days where they can teach specific life skills.

Yes, teach academics like reading, math, history, language and cooking, how to keep a checkbook, how to do taxes, how to keep up a house.

Well said, this way students will be a lot more prepared to handle real life issues.

I think teachers should teach those life skills you mentioned at schools. Teaching them to budget their finances is not only important but is also good for the students.

Exactly, i have come across lots of young ones who end up mismanaging their capital and suddenly end up taking loans at an early age.

I have always thought schools should have, as part of their curriculum, lessons in money management, how interest works both in terms of credit and saving, how to invest in the stock market, and so on and so forth.

Yes it will help build a younger generation with a lot more stronger foundation and more equiped to handle life outside school.
