How are the beaches where you live?

Sometimes, I love the idea of living far away from the busy city, like in a house on a mountain. Since you are so far from the coast, do you ever get to go to the beach?

@Ayu2026 - In the past we lived by the Mediterranean sea. After we moved I never went again. I am not a fan of the beaches.

@LadyDuck So, it was a perfect move for you. What do you like about living in the north of Italy?

@Ayu2026 Well they are beautiful, Beside lovely water and scenery Yet very few people use them

@Ineeddentures I guess people are getting spoiled by having hundreds of beaches nearby. People who live in places with no beaches at all would do anything just to enjoy one.

It is pretty. What did you mean by saying that your beaches were a bit strange?

@Ayu2026 I was surprised in Hawaii and Bermuda that the ocean water was cold

At first I also thought that the water here would be warm. But I was wrong. I went to Praia Grande and Praia de Carcavelos which are in Lisbon. They both have cold ocean water. I can't imagine how much colder it will be in Winter.

@Ayu2026 Thanks for the very thorough and detailed answer about swimwear requirements for women. I like the idea of a country being welcoming of all religions. Are you Hindu? It was amazing living right on the beach! I could wake up early in the morning, take a beautiful sunrise walk on the beach, and still have time for breakfast before getting ready for school. I really miss those days, and wish I could afford to live right on the beach again. Back then, all the rich developers had not bought up all the beachfront property and built condos and hotels. When I was younger, much of the coastline was undeveloped or had homes there. Now, it would cost millions of dollars to buy beachfront property (if there is any left for sale).

That's pretty cool. How does it feel to live in a house right on the beach? Do you sometimes regret moving away from the beach?Most people in my country are Muslim—like 90% of us—and the rest are Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, and Confucianists. However, Indonesia is NOT a Muslim country.We Indonesians maintain interfaith harmony due to the foundational state ideology of Unity in Diversity. Therefore, this pluralistic coexistence has thrived through centuries of cultural syncretism, community cooperation, and state-backed policies that mandate mutual respect among recognized religions.I myself am from a small island named Bali, where the population is majority Hindu. We live in harmony side by side with non-Hindu people on this island.Since Indonesia is not a Muslim country, we do not live based on Muslim standards. Regarding going to the beach, we don't have any specific dress code rules. But our culture is very different from western cultures. We prefer to wear decent clothes if we go to the beach, such as shorts and a tank top, a T-shirt, or a swimsuit—or even a two-piece bikini with a beach sarong for women. We don't really like to seek attention. Women go to the beach simply to enjoy it, not to show off their bodies in overly revealing swimwear.

@moffittjc It’s such a shame that wealthy developers are taking over the beachfronts from the locals. I can only imagine what your childhood was like living right on the beach. Visiting now must bring back so much nostalgia. You were truly lucky to grow up there and experience such a rare opportunity. I was raised in a Hindu family, but as I grew older, I became more open-minded. I realized we are all just human. I don't like to label myself strictly as Hindu because I feel it separates me from people with different beliefs.

Your country has a lot of beautiful beaches, I know. So, if you really want to go to the beach, how far do you have to go from your house?

@Ayu2026 only when there's something to celebrate that family gathered and we go to the beach. But during pandemic mostly 3x a week.

We all have nice and not nice beaches . How often do you go to the beach?

Is the beach far away from your house?

Exactly. I want to actually get in and splash around when I go to the beach. It’s no fun just sitting on the sand, hoping the cold water will magically turn tropical!
