Man versus bear

Last week, four women in Australia met their deaths through domestic violence – four women in one week. The photo shows a artwork created by a girl in Year 12 so 16-17 years old. The accompanying blurb says that a woman dies from domestic violence every nine days, so we excelled ourselves last week. The note mentions a ‘man versus bear’ debate where women said they’d prefer to be alone in the woods with a bear rather than a man. I hadn’t heard of this ‘debate’ before but maybe others have. I’m sorry the photo isn’t clearer but it shows a woman hiding in front of a bear. (Edit: it's turned better clearer when it's this size - and what an accomplishment for a teenager.) I also acknowledge that men can be the victims of domestic violence too. My friend’s son was pushed through a window by his wife but mostly, it’s the women who are victims.

Violence against men is under reported. The stastics are much higher than people would believe

I can truly believe that. That is very sad too.

There is a man in my church who was physically abused by his first wife. He’s such a good man. Thankfully, he’s married now to a lady my mom introduced him too. They’re very happy now. I’d rather face a bear. It will just kill me. A man will torture, beat, and extend my misery. And THEN he’d kill me. Bravo to all the cowardly weasel men who harass, abuse, and beat women. They must be so proud. (please see Sarcasm here)

It's pretty sad that people would choose to face a bear rather than a man.

I agree that mostly it's the women who are victims of domestic violence, but there are also many men.

@JudyEv I suppose they are more discrete than women. There is a hot line in Italy to help abused men, so I suppose there are more than we think.

We don't hear much, if anything, about men being abused.

@LadyDuck I think they would be embarrassed to admit to being abused so maybe they don't come forward so readily.

She did a great job. I hadn't heard that debate but can understand it.

It's a very sad thing if it's true and I guess it is.

You are literally the first person to explain what the "man vs bear" thing actually is. I heard but wasn't sure what it was. Thank you.

I'd never heard of it till we went to this exhibition. These kids were incredibly creative.

It's terrible isn't it. People are scared of bears and sharks and such but in fact being at home with your partner is much more risky.
