I hate moving

I agree with the concept, but I'll also be going away during the last week of July for five days, so I'll need to take that into account, too. The cats will recognize the furniture. When we moved to where we are now, my daughter bought all new furniture so there were no familiar smells at all. The elderly cat was fine. She likes everything and everybody, but the not as elderly cat freaked out the whole way. I just ordered a new soft sided cat carrier that's got more room than the hard carrier she was basically stuffed into moving here. She should be lest stressed this trip because of that and because the furniture will all be the same even when the house won't be.

@jerzgirl Depends on the furntshingis. Cats reconize things by sent, not sight. Things like metel and wood don't hold sent as well as fabrics do.

@kaylachan True, but they sleep on my bed with me and my clothes will be there and their litter boxes. They'll have plenty of events to recognize. When they got brought to where we are now, nothing of mine was here until I got here. Me need. New couch and chair in the living room, New coffee table. It took Josie three days to realize I had stayed put when she finally ventured into my room and jumped on the bed with me. Meanwhile Tiki didn't give two figs as long as there was food, litter and no strange cats plus me and Deb. And the dog she knows. She actually let our neighbors take her to their apartment when they thought she was a stray without any thought. It was only when she saw their cats that she came unglued.

Most of it, thankfully, is being done by my daughter and her bf. But I'm still moving and lifting things more than I'm used to.

@LadyDuck I've done it alone before and it was awful. The two people who claimed to be helping threw things out without telling me, broke other things and spilled bacon grease all over the floor because they couldn't keep their hands off the drippings jar. They're still friends, but they're also still a nightmare. No coordination or sense of direction (go right when told left, east when told west). Thank God they haven't helped in subsequent moves. They're too ADHD to work with. But this move is my daughter's baby. I'm going along because I don't want to give my autonomy to the state in order to go into assisted living. So I'll be renting a room in her new house that she's dreamed of with acreage and room for three dogs. I've got a big bag of clothing to donate to the local church thrift store, so that's some that won't need to be moved, other than having my friend take me to drop it off. And he can carry it to the car because it's so big and I use a cane. I can trust him with that.

@jerzgirl - I am glad you have someone to help, I had to do almost everything myself, my husband has dementia and was of very little help.

I rarely overdo, but I'm sure I'll notice it regardless. Limited mobility is a pain.

Thanks. I just ordered a large carrier for my 10 yr old car. She's huge and the hard body carrier is too tight a fit. She was NOT happy when she moved here in it. I'll put the tiny 18 yr old in that instead.
