Trying to get work to bring back home ec

When I started working at the high school the push was for all students to go to college. There were like 5 AP English classes and I was like "there definitely aren't enough students who qualify for that". I saw parents refusing to move their students to the lowest level which would make them ineligible to start at a 4 year college. They failed and failed and failed and I was disgusted that they wouldn't accept reality. Over the past several years though there's been a push for students to go to vocational school. We even now have a "shop" course which is mostly wood but they do all sorts of stuff. The kids love it. The funny thing is that the shop class is taught by someone who was a history teacher. I think he had to get some other certification but now that's what he does. I figure if he can do shop then a science teacher can do cooking/baking. I floated the idea to the new building principal. He knows that I did well with the Baking Club this year. We shall see if the idea gets any legs. The high schools are backing off of pushing every kind to go to college. Who knows?
