Do you like your electric company?

I feel very fortunate to have the one I have. It is a member owned co op and they try very hard to keep their rates reasonable. They issued capitial credits to everyone to help with the summer AC bills. Of course I shouldn't be saying this until I get a gander at the heat wave bill, but every other utility company is raising rates whereas ours has remained consistent. The next bill coming in will be well over 200 dollars I am sure. However, I was using AC and fans constantly everyday so it is expected.

We are the renewables capital of Europe
We have wind turbines all around us.
We have solar farms
And yet we have some of the highest energy prices in the world
It's a sad state of affairs

It’s great to have an electric company that focuses more on customers than profits. Being part of a co-op is a smart way to make operations better suited to the community since it’s built around serving local needs rather than chasing profit. We have one in our area too, but unfortunately, some elected leaders seem more interested in personal gain than staying true to the real purpose of a cooperative.

@rsa101 Yes, well I sent in my proxy vote. I just voted for the ones in there now. They seem to do a good job, but besides that. They have drawings for people who vote...YOu never know!

You are very lucky. Our electric company is a cooperative one subsidized by the government but there are a lot of charges that are exorbitant. And last month they started implementing charges we must pay because those goes to the poor people who enjoy free electricity. So they get to enjoy free electricity while we are forced to pay for them. So our bill doubled. And at the moment our country charges the highest electric bill in the whole south East Asian countries. Much more expensive than Singapore.

You can regulate how you feel about them. Some states have deregulation and consumers can pick their own power company .within a certain set of alternatives probably. Every state should have that option! I know some power companies that probably wouldn't be in business very long

I don’t like mine although every single interaction I’ve had with them was perfectly pleasant. But they raised our rates two years in a row (not yet this year), and it takes them forever to fix an outage. It took four days for my complex to get our electricity back this last time. I realize they follow a pattern, but that pattern leaves us last every time. In addition, even if it just a tree that took down a power line it can take up to 24 hours to fix. In addition, their estimate for it to be restored is always wrong, and they don’t provide updates.
On the other hand, if it is under 32 degrees and you have not paid your bill they will not cut you off, or if it gets to 95 degrees they won’t cut off your electricity. I admire that. I’ve never been in that situation, but I’m sure some people have.

Yes, mine is very good. It is like yours member owned co op. We have used it 35 years.
