A good year for blackberries

A lot of plants are struggling in the drought we’re having here; I think several of my young shrubs have died already. But it seems to be a great year for blackberries!
Yesterday I needed to take our car to the garage (yet again!) to find out the cause of the warning light this time. I dropped it off and then started walking back; I had decided to take the slightly longer route because I could pick some blackberries on the way.
It seems to be a bumper year for blackberries though! I hadn’t gone very far before I had filled the two tubs I had brought with me so I decided to turn back and take the shorter route instead. And when I reached the road again there was a car coming, and it was our car! The mechanics had taken it for a test drive to see what was wrong, and they were just about to call me.
They concluded that the problem was down to worn parts that needed replacing, but it wasn’t dangerous, so I might as well take it home again and use it while they ordered what was needed. So I drove back with two big tubs of blackberries. That's a bonus I guess although we can now expect an expensive quote for repairs

Blackberries
Ok Brambles
We have been surrounded by Brambles
My garden is a bramble free oasis in our block of 4 gardens
You should see the brambles
Well you will because I will post about them
They are doing really well
Some of the briars are 30 ft long
Ours are a couple of weeks away from being ready
We have a chap who has asked to pick them so he can sell them

But we have been taken over by Brambles
I think it's awesome
My garden surrounded by Brambles lol
They grow and grow and never stop, not even in the winter

You're right, blackberries and mulberries do look similar - I always think that mulberries look as if someone has picked blackberries and stuck them along the branches Mulberry trees are not native here but there are a few about; they have bee cultivated for a long time.

Although that plant is foreign to our area, it can survive our tropical climate. I see local plants growing here, thriving beautifully alongside it. Their fruits aren’t commonly found in the market, though I’ve noticed large farms in some areas producing them.

Your timing couldn't have been much better. You set out hoping to pick a few blackberries and ended up filling two tubs before you were even halfway home! Then, just as you reached the road, your own car appeared after its test drive. At least the mechanics were able to identify the problem and reassure you that it was safe to drive while the replacement parts are ordered.

The funny thing was that I saw a car coming under the railway bridge where it is a bit dark, so I couldn't see it clearly, but as it emerged I saw the registration plate and instead of immediately realising that it was our car I thought 'That car has the same reg. as ours!'

I haven't pick any wild blackberries in years. Here we mostly have black raspberries which are a different berry all together. I love all berries.

@Fleura they are wild so I don't think so. They look just like raspberry's, many a little tighter by a dark blure black. The taste pretty much like a raspberry but a little sweeter.
