Wheee! My biggest sunflower is in (almost) full bloom!

My tallest sunflower is blooming now. OK, it's only about four feet high, and the flower is only about 4" across, but it still makes me smile. I'll attach a picture I took yesterday. Unfortunately,I got all excited and toot the photo before I watered, so the leaves are a bit droopy. Do you get excited when your garden grows?

Glad your garden is doing well. I wonder why your sunflowers don't keep growing.

@TheHorse We have a problem with snails. They are climbers They even climb onto raspberry plants and do damage

@Ineeddentures We have snails here too. They were more of a problem in Oakland (by the Bay),relative to "out here" where it is warmer and drier.

@TheHorse - Why not, I miss my garden, but I am also glad not to have to take care of a garden.

Oh goodie! I love sunflowers. I saw some for 6 bucks yesterday. Won't be long til they are all ready for harvest here. There is a sunflower farm less than an hour from here. I might get some.

Have you ever tried harvesting the seeds from the sunflowers you grow? I always loved the part where I could eat something from my gardens. Congrats on the beautiful sunflower!

The ones out here (on my balcony) don't get big enough because I have them in smallish pots. But the kids and I harvested seeds from our sunflowers in Oakland. We actually baked 'em up with butter and a bit of salt.

I do not have a garden. The only plant I have is a Christmas cactus. Last year there were no flowers at all. They seemed to start growing but then they fell off. I think that was the only year where no flowers bloomed.

My succulents throw flowers, but I never know when. The thing I like about succulents is that they are hard to kill.

@lovebuglena Even someone without a "green thumb" can have some succulents in their kitchen window (or garden in warmer climates).

That looks great! It makes one feels so elated when one's plants grow well. At times, some plants start well but do not last that much. Have a nice day !

Love that sunflower, I no longer have a garden but when I did I loved it and had lots of surprises like the tomatoes and cucumbers growing in our greenhouse, When I weeded it was always tomato, cucumber, and one cat in the middle of it all

I'm not a garden guy, even when I'm not living in an apartment. But I always thought sunflowers were kind of cool. My grandma had a bunch of them when I was a little kid.
