Not a good day at the zoo here. Lion killed a lioness :(

This happened yesterday. I would expect this in a wild but not in a captivity but i guess it can happen too. The zoo authorities will investigate what happened between 2 African lions who were peacefully living for 3 weeks and suddenly, this happened. Also, the lion, named Uganda, age 5 is okay, like nothing happened. I wish i can get more data but this is it at the moment. Poor lioness, named Tayri was a year older. They both came at Zagreb zoo in Croatia as a part of the European breeding program. She came from Hungarian zoo and he came from the zoo in France. I've seen many documentaries about female lions in the wild where they have to give in to if they want to protect their cubs. I've also seen disturbing scenes when 2 or 3 lions molested lioness so, hearing this news, it leaves me saddened a bit. They should have had a long life ahead of them but, she won't see that
Lioness Tayri died after being attacked by a young Ugandan lion at the Zagreb Zoo, and experts are determining the circumstances of the incident.

Seems like maybe a bad decision by the zoo to put them together so soon. Very sad.?

i feel the same. and i think they hurried up the process cause the lioness was ready to mate. and they said that new lioness would join him soon. some animals rights group stood up agaisnt it. i would kick him out from this program.

you are right. oh, i could picture that, ah. animals rights groups here stood up againts the zoo bringing him a new mate. and i think i heard that if a lion kills another animal by biting its neck, it is a murder instinct, just like here (not an accident) and i wouldn't bring another lioness that could end up the same.

It can happen anywhere. Once I had been to a zoo. An employee opend the gate of a tiger's cage to put a big plate of flesh in for the tiger. The tiger walked towards the gate. The employee trembled with fear. As the tiger came out of the cage, the poor man entered the cage to protect himself. Now the beast was free and the employee was in the cage. The forest department officials had a hard time to cage the tiger again. I and other visitors ran helter skelter when the tiger came out of the cage.

What a terrible story. Guess we aren't as smart as we think we are
