Are there certain sayings that you really don't like?

I was going to write this last night, but I got sidetracked, which often happens.
The other day I was here just reading discussions, and there were several discussions that had my least favorite saying that is still somewhat popular--
''It is what it is.''
Doesn't that sound hopeless to you? It's a dead statement to me--one with no positivity, no hope, nothing. Like a big dead end. It's negativity at it's finest, and I hate it. Maybe it's just me. My daughter hates it as well, she says it's been used to death.
And then there is LOL.
Yes, LOL. We all know after years of being online, what LOL means. At this point, there is no laughing involved with using it anymore. Some people use it multiple times in one paragraph. Some use it in every single post. I can handle one LOL once in a while--but not in every comment, not in every discussion. I just can't. I don't know why I feel that way--it's just become so common that it has no meaning at all anymore.
Then there is the really worn out ''I did a thing.'' Seriously? We all do a thing or two...daily. Enough with that one, it's dead.
Last but not least in my list of sayings I do not like is ''adulting''....um, aren't we all adults in here, or at least old enough to be adults? I have to agree--being an adult can be very difficult at times, I know that. But if you are a normal adult that functions for the most part, then you don't need to think or to talk about adulting. You just do it.

It is what it is! I hate that. And there's one particular person that I always hear it from and it breaks my heart.

I agree so much. It's so negative, and dismissive--it's like someone is basically saying ''I give up, and you should give up, too!'' Um, no. There's enough negativity out there already without sayings like this.

Marie, you know you’re going to make some people feel targeted! 
I don’t mind any of these, really. Some people just aren’t that great at expressing themselves. Also, one Mylotter told me they write LOL a lot because they have selected an inappropriate emoji before when they went for the smiley face or laughter. I have actually used an inappropriate emoji too on a serious topic, and I felt terrible about it. Oh, I felt so bad!
While I don’t use LOL on Mylot, I do use it in texts to save time, and get my point across that I’m not serious. I think my friends are used to me, though.
I guess one I don’t appreciate, although I wouldn’t say I have a problem with, is “get over it”. I think it is way too dismissive. Someone may really be struggling for reasons we aren’t aware of, and throwing a “get over it” is just too cavalier.

@MarieCoyle On Facebook, I’m guilty of mainly looking at pictures and videos. I don’t seem to find too much to read of people’s posts.

I scroll around and look to see if my kids have posted any new pictures, read a few posts from friends...I am guilty of rarely, if ever posting anything anymore. I never know if and when I will return to it, and it seems better not to post too much if I am not there to answer or to comment.

No intention of targeting, it was a discussion I had thought about writing for some time. Then I saw several posts here and on facebook posts that said ''it is what it is'' and that triggered the post.
One LOL is fine. One every other sentence is overdone...and besides, it gets used when things aren't even funny. I mean, it's supposed to mean ''laughing out loud'' but if there's nothing to laugh about, what's the point? 
Oh, and I agree. I do not like ''get over it'' as it sounds just plain old mean.

Well done post Marie. We need to clear the air on this subject in my opinion.
When I see sayings like that online, I just roll my eyes and realize that this individual 'has to have' the last word. That is how it strikes me, but that is just my opinion.
I am disappointed when I find myself using the word 'yummy' online. Really, what does that say? It does not say delicious, it is more of a childish word in my books, so I have to correct myself when I realize that I have used it.
Alot of members do not like it when I write about hydro. Some do not take the time to search it and find it's meaning.

I get tired of seeing the same old sayings constantly. And after a while, they don't really mean anything, either.

I know what you mean. Some phrases become so overused that they lose their original meaning. "It is what it is" can sound like giving up, although I think some people use it to mean they've accepted a situation they can't change. As for "LOL", I barely think of it as "laughing out loud" anymore. It's almost become a punctuation mark in online conversations! One phrase I'm tired of hearing is "living my best life." It seems to get attached to everything these days. Language changes over time, but some expressions definitely outstay their welcome.

I actually heard someone yesterday saying they were ''living their best life.'' Yes, that one is tired and overused, too. But as for LOL...as you said, it's now a punctuation mark!

Being so flip about life with a statement like that is whether weird. LOL is okay by me. Better than profanity or some others I see. Yes, adulting. I've started seeing that recently. It is to me like the 'woke' terminology. It's just down right weird. Maybe we should make up some of our own. How would that be?

So many people seem to have a favorite or two and use them so much that whatever they are saying loses it's meaning.

If whatever saying is used hurts others, and serves no purpose for anything, there's no point. I was not aware you were married more than once. Sounds like you didn't have the best the first go-around, glad you had a nice loving husband for the next one.

I have a tendency to use LOL but not here very much. I'll add it to a text if I think my comment might not be taken as funny so I add the LOL just to reinforce the whole joking.
My one granddaughter uses some lingo that I hate especially when she calls everyone bruh. She;s 25 and too old for that,

George, I am so, so tired of LOL. ''I do not get it'' usually means someone doesn't understand or doesn't want to understand, and can be very irritating, too.

When you think about it, there isn't a time and place for everything. There is no time or place for murder, abuse, neglect, violence,....and on and on.
